Hoyt Wilhelm pitched 3 strong innings as the San Francisco Golden Seals pulled
out a win over the Cleveland Buckeyes by a score of 5 to 4 at Dimaggio Field.
San Francisco won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Bill Virdon stroked
a single. George Alusik was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Gary
Geiger then was walked intentionally. Bobby Richardson stepped in and he
reached on an error making San Francisco the victors to the delight of the
home town faithful. Both teams ended up with 8 on the afternoon.
Wilhelm(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 3 innings. Don Schwall(0-2) was
charged with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not
allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
