In a thriller the Sacramento River Cats staged a dramatic comeback then held
on to win over the San Francisco Golden Seals by a score of 4 to 2 at
Dimaggio Field.
Sacramento scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
After an out was recorded, Andre Rodgers kicked off the action when he drew
a walk. One out later, Gene Alley came up and he delivered a single. Tommy
Davis then doubled driving home two runs. Tony Kubek stepped in and he
smacked a single scoring the final run of the inning. Sacramento rapped out
8 hits for the afternoon.
Dick Ellsworth(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Hoyt
Wilhelm(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Wilhelm was feeling
apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a
miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are
looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to
redeem myself real soon!'
