Dave McNally took a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the Sacramento River Cats by a score of 3 to 2 at Raley Field.
McNally(1-0) put on a good performance.  He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks in
8 and 2/3 innings.  The left-handed McNally had his no-hit bid broken up by
Glenn Beckert who singled with two outs in the 9th inning.  Sacramento had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
Lindy McDaniel earned the save, his 1st.  Turk Farrell(0-1) was the loser.  He
pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 walks.
