WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Bill Freehan blocked the plate, saving a run!
Bot 4th: Tommie Agee robbed Dick McAuliffe of a Homerun!
Center fielder Felipe Alou had 5 hits and 3 RBI and Don McMahon quieted any
hopes that Michigan may have had of a comeback at Angel Stadium where the Los
Angeles Angels beat the Michigan Blue Jackets by the score of 10 to 8.
Alou had a good day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning, doubled which
was good for two runs in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning, lined a
one-base hit in the 6th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 1st of
the season) in the 8th inning. Although they lost, Michigan did out-hit Los
Angeles 15 to 10.
Ken Johnson(1-0) went 6 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Johnson got
relief help from McMahon who gained credit for his 1st save. Don
Drysdale(0-1) suffered the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8
runs in 6 innings.
Tommie Agee smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI but it wasn't enough for Michigan.
