36,663 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Los Angeles Angels won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Los Angeles came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs
utilizing 4 base hits.  Hank Aaron opened up the inning nicely when he
doubled.  Ron Swoboda stepped up next and he doubled which scored a run.
Tony Conigliaro followed, but he was set down on strikes.  Bill Freehan
stepped in and he doubled scoring one more run.  After another out, Mike
Epstein came up and he drew a walk.  Don Wert added to the rally and doubled
scoring the final run of the inning.  Boston had a chance to come back in the
9th but they came up short.  
The win went to Pete Cimino(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Don
McMahon recorded the save, his 1st.  Mike Cuellar(0-1) was hit with the loss.
He surrendered 5 runs and 7 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.
