Phil Ortega delivered 8 solid innings as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the
Cleveland Indians in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 3 at Municipal Stadium.
Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. Boston won it in the
10th inning. The big moment was provided by Tim McCarver who helped quiet
the crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his 1st of the season). Boston
banged out 8 on the night.
Orlando Pena(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Pena got help
from Joe Hoerner who was credited with his 1st save. Bob Priddy(0-1) was
tagged with the loss in relief. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
4 runs in 2 innings.
