Sam McDowell reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and left fielder Jim Wynn had
2 base hits and 2 RBI at Shea Stadium as the Seattle Red Barons beat the
Boston Beaneaters 5 to 0.
McDowell(2-0) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 6 hits and 1
walk in 8 innings. Seattle finished with 10 hits while Boston ended up with 7.
Mike Cuellar(0-2) was the loser. He was not very effective, surrendering 5
runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of
McDowell - except Boston. Mike Burdulis lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight.
He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good
strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately
we were the visitors!'
