Roberto Clemente had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Forbes Field as the Boston Beaneaters
staged a comeback win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 9 to 8.
Boston had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
using 3 hits. Maury Wills led off and started the rally when he lined a
single. After an out was recorded, Danny Cater stepped in and he doubled
knocking in a run. Frank Howard then was walked intentionally. Clemente
came up and he stroked a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning.
Boston had 16 hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 8.
Jim Perry(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jim
Brewer(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief. Brewer was feeling apologetic
in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling
to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then.
BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
