Mike Cuellar had a strong outing as the Boston Beaneaters topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 0 at Fenway Park.
Pittsburgh was unable to recover after Boston went ahead in the 2nd inning
with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Roberto
Clemente got things going when he hit a single. Tony Perez came next and he
doubled resulting in a run. Alex Johnson then lined a single scoring the
final run of the inning. That was all Cuellar(1-1) needed. Boston had 10
hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 7.
Cuellar got help from Phil Regan who was credited with his 1st save. Larry
Jackson(0-1) took the loss. His ERA ballooned from 3.00 to 3.27 as he
allowed 2 runs in 5 innings.
