Denny McLain struck out 10 batters at Angel Stadium where the Seattle Red
Barons beat the Los Angeles Angels in 10 innings 2 to 1.
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Seattle won the game in the
10th inning. After two outs Tim Cullen reached on an error. Willie Crawford
was next and he was walked intentionally. Don McMahon then threw a wild
pitch. McMahon then let loose a wild pitch scoring the run. Seattle had
only 5 hits for the game.
McLain(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 9 innings. McLain got
help from Eddie Watt who was credited with his 1st save. McMahon(1-1) was
tagged with the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not
allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
McLain was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I
just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
