25,793 fans were treated to a fine game at PCH Park as only one run separated
the combatants at game's end. The Boston Beaneaters won by the slimmest of
margins, 5 to 4.
The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning. After two outs Jerry Adair
doubled, and an error was also committed. Ed Brinkman stepped into the
batter's box and he laced a base-knock. Boston banged out 11 hits on the
afternoon.
Dave Leonhard(1-0) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Joe Hoerner
earned the save, his 1st. John Gelnar(0-1) took the loss in relief. He was the
victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
