Harmon Killebrew blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Angel Stadium as the
Albuquerque Dukes won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Los Angeles
Angels by the count of 9 to 7.
Albuquerque had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning when they
scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Killebrew
who silenced the crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 2nd
of the season). Albuquerque had 12 hits for the game and Los Angeles had 7.
Milt Pappas(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Pappas got help
from Cecil Upshaw who was credited with his 1st save. Don McMahon(0-1)
suffered the loss in relief.
Rick Byrens was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us tonight'
