Center fielder Jim Northrup had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Albuquerque Dukes
outscored the Los Angeles Angels in 10 innings 9 to 7.
Both teams were tied at 7 runs apiece after nine innings. Albuquerque ended
up winning it in the 10th inning. Ron Santo started the inning off right
when he stroked a one-base hit. Harmon Killebrew stepped up next and he
tripled. Mike Hershberger then drew a walk. Mack Jones followed and he drew
a walk to load the bases. Johnny Bench came to the plate and hit a deep fly.
Jackie Hernandez struck out, unable to help the rally. Cecil Upshaw was
next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. The Los Angeles offense
proved no trouble in the bottom of the 10th.
The win was credited to Upshaw(2-0) who went 3 innings allowing 2 runs. Ron
Willis(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.
