Baltimore jumped on top of Chicago in the top of the 2nd inning plating an isolated run using 4 hits. Clarence Gaston banged out a single. Maury Wills stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a one-base hit. Ray Fosse then grounded into a double play. Sandy Alomar followed and he laced a base-knock. Pat Dobson came to the plate and delivered a base-hit. Dobson took second on the throw. Chicago threatened in the 9th but Baltimore was able to put down the rally.
Dobson(1-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Ken Sanders got the save, his 1st. Chris Short(0-1) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
