Catcher Johnny Bench launched 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI and Bob Veale dominated
striking out 12 San Francisco batters at Dimaggio Field where the Albuquerque
Dukes beat the San Francisco Golden Seals by the score of 12 to 3.
Bench really lit it up for Albuquerque. The San Francisco fans let him have it
for what he did to their boys. He hit a single plating two runs in the 1st inning,
lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 3rd inning and ripped a solo home
run in the 7th inning. Albuquerque rapped out 13 hits for the night.
Veale(1-0) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Tom Hall(0-1)
took the loss. He was knocked around by Albuquerque, allowing 8 hits and 6
walks in 5 innings.
Veale, when asked about his 12 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
