One run was the difference at Tiger Stadium as the Portland Beavers defeated
the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 4.
The game was won by Portland when they scored a run in the 8th inning.  Dusty
Baker tripled.  Dick McAuliffe followed next and he doubled.  This was a game
of many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5
times in all.  
Gary Peters(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Steve
Kealey gained credit for his 1st save.  Diego Segui(0-1) was charged with the
loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 hits and no walks in 1 inning.
