Jerry Koosman reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Portland Beavers
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 2 to 1 at Tiger Stadium.
Koosman(1-0) had a solid outing for Portland. He went 7 innings surrendering
5 hits and 3 walks. Portland had a total of 7 hits for the game.
Koosman got help from Ray Corbin who was credited with his 1st save. Dave
McNally(1-1) was the loser. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Koosman offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them
tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept
them busy tonight - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
