The Portland Beavers bested the Seattle Red Barons by a 4 to 1 score at Tiger Stadium.
Portland did all the necessary damage in the 7th inning when they scored 4
runs on 5 hits.  The key at-bat was by Dick McAuliffe who made the crowd come
alive when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.  Neither
team was able to score until the 7th inning.  
Ken Holtzman(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Paul Lindblad
recorded the save, his 1st.  Jim Palmer(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He
surrendered 4 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.
