Chris Speier had 3 base hits at Three Rivers Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates came back dramatically to top the Boston Beaneaters by the score of 6 to 5.
Pittsburgh had the winning rally in the 9th inning plating 2 runs on 2 base hits. Ken Singleton led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Bill Robinson next to the plate and he singled. Robinson took his lead and swiped second. Dick Allen came up and he doubled making Pittsburgh the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Pittsburgh finished with 10 hits in the victory.
The win went to Jim Rooker(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. The loss was charged to Diego Segui(1-1) in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Speier said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'
