Mickey Rivers had 3 base hits as the Portland Beavers came back to win one
over San Francisco Golden Seals, 4 to 3.
Portland came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base hits. Bob Watson got things going when he
delivered a one-base hit. Mike Anderson next to the plate and he ripped a
base-hit. Dale Murray then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball.
Dusty Baker came up and he belted a three-run homer resulting in an exciting
win for Portland and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Portland won despite being out-hit by San Francisco 9 hits to 6.
Randy Moffitt(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Murray(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter
allowing 3 hits and no walks.
Keith Bessinger was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'
