WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Amos Otis robbed George Foster of an extra base hit.
Rod Carew had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Memorial Stadium as the Vancouver Canadians
came back dramatically to top the Chesapeake Bays by the score of 7 to 6.
Vancouver won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs on 2 hits. Ron Dunn led off and got things going when he reached on an
error. After an out was recorded, Larry Bowa stepped in and he laced a
one-base hit. George Foster then hit a sacrifice fly. Larry Lintz came up
and he drew a walk. Willie Crawford stepped into the box and drew a walk to
load the bases. Carew continued the rally and ripped a base-knock. Carew
took second on the throw. Gene Tenace dug into the batters box next, but he
struck out. Chesapeake out-hit Vancouver 12 to 7, but Vancouver ended up
with more runs.
Ron Reed(1-0) allowed 2 runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Grant
Jackson earned the save, his 1st. Dick Bosman(0-1) took the loss in relief.
He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1
inning of work.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Bosman said. 'The bottom line is I
didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
