Center fielder Cesar Cedeno hit 2 doubles and had 6 RBI as the Houston Astros
topped the Portland Beavers by a score of 16 to 7 at Tiger Stadium.
Cedeno was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He stroked a single which brought home a run in the
1st inning, doubled which was good for two runs in the 5th inning and doubled
bringing home two baserunners in the 9th inning. Houston bats were very
productive in the 7th inning when they had 6 runs on 4 hits and the 9th
inning with 6 runs on 5 hits. Houston ended up with 18 hits for the game
while Portland had 13.
Carl Morton(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 1
run. Ed Figueroa(0-2) was the loser. Cedeno said, 'It was just all timing. I
had pretty good rhythm at the plate tonight. You've got to take advantage of
mistakes when you can. A couple pitches were definitely up a little bit -
right in my zone.'
