The Cleveland Indians nipped the Minnesota Xpress 3 to 2 at Xpress Stadium in
a hard fought contest.
Minnesota was unable to climb back into it after Cleveland went ahead for good
in the top of the 6th inning plating one baserunner. Hal McRae reached on an
error. Two outs later Graig Nettles stepped up to the plate and he was
walked intentionally. Bake McBride then ripped a base-hit scoring the run.
Minnesota tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Catfish Hunter(1-1) allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Hunter was helped out by Rollie Fingers who recorded his 2nd save.
Rick Rhoden was charged with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings.
