TEAM RISP- Astros: 1 for 12 Beavers: 2 for 13
The Houston Astros and the Portland Beavers locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Tiger Stadium. The final score was the Houston Astros 5, the
Portland Beavers 4 in 10 innings.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston won it in
the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Buddy Bell stroked a one-base
hit, and an error was also committed. Mike Ivie stepped up to the plate and
he slapped a base-hit scoring the run. Ivie took second on the throw.
Houston had 7 hits for the night.
The win was credited to Gene Garber(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
Ron Reed got the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Charlie Hough(0-1)
in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in
his 1 inning of work.
