Rick Burleson had 2 base hits at Tiger Stadium as the Columbus Redbirds beat
the Portland Beavers 5 to 2.
Mark Fidrych(1-0) pitched a fine game.  He went 5 innings allowing 4 hits and
2 walks.  Portland threatened in the 9th but Columbus was able to put down
the rally.  
Fidrych got help from Mike Marshall who was credited with his 1st save.  Luis
Tiant(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He surrendered 5 runs and 7 hits in 6
and 1/3 innings.
