TEAM RISP- Fire: 5 for 12 Dukes: 1 for 6
46,746 fans were treated to a fine game at Chase Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Chicago Fire won by the slimmest
of margins, 5 to 4.
Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Chicago won the game in
the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Ken Reitz drew a walk. One out
later, Freddie Patek came to the plate and ripped a base-hit. Dave Cash then
lashed a single scoring the run. The Albuquerque bats were silent in the
bottom of the 10th.
The win was credited to Skip Lockwood(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing 3 runs.
Lockwood got help from Steve Foucault who was credited with his 1st save.
Ray Burris(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.
