Mike Flanagan went 7 and one third solid innings at The King's Palace as the Queens Kings beat the Texas Rangers 2 to 1.
Queens scored 2 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they had 3 base hits. Davey Lopes led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Two outs later Carlton Fisk came up and he ripped a single. Steve Garvey then tripled resulting in a run. Gene Richards was up next and he slapped a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. The early run support proved sufficient for Flanagan(1-0) and Queens. That was all the run support Flanagan required. The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again.
Flanagan got help from John Candelaria who earned his 1st save. Bob Knepper(0-2) ended up with the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks.
