Don Baylor connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI as the Texas Rangers beat the Queens Kings by a score of 6 to 5.
Texas had 3 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning. Billy Smith led off and got things going when he reached on an error. Tim Foli stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Toby Harrah then worked the squeeze play to perfection plating a run. Gary Matthews stepped in and he doubled scoring another run. Thurman Munson stepped into the box and laced a base-knock. Rick Waits then had one get away for a wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning. Queens made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Bruce Kison(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 3 and 2/3 innings. Bill Lee recorded his 1st save. Waits(0-1) absorbed the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Jim Walsh was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
