Keith Hernandez came to the plate and banged out a single. Jim Rice then tripled scoring two teammates. Montreal was out-hit by Alabama, 12 hits to 9.
Ron Guidry(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Terry Forster recorded the save, his 1st. Vida Blue(1-1) ended up with the loss. His ERA ballooned from 2.78 to 3.58 as he allowed 4 runs in 5 innings.
