TEAM RISP- Expos: 3 for 14 Redbirds: 3 for 7
The Montreal Expos nipped the Columbus Redbirds 5 to 4 at Busch Stadium in a
hard fought contest.
Montreal went ahead for good in the 7th inning scoring one runner utilizing 2
base hits. Columbus tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Jerry Reuss(1-0) went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Reuss was helped out by Enrique Romo who recorded his 1st save. Steve
Carlton(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and
2/3 innings.
Ed Karpowicz was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of
loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
