Left fielder Steve Kemp cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Dennis Martinez went 9 strong innings at Dimaggio Field where the Great Lakes Whitecaps beat the San Francisco Golden Seals by the score of 4 to 0.
Kemp enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 1st inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th inning. Great Lakes managed 7 hits in their victory.
Martinez(2-0) was credited with the shutout. Mike Scott(2-1) took the loss. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 walks.
