The Great Lakes Whitecaps bested the Chicago Fire by a 4 to 1 score at The Shipyard.
Great Lakes scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when they came up
with 5 base hits. Alan Wiggins opened up the inning nicely when he delivered
a one-base hit, and an error was also committed. After an out was recorded,
Andre Thornton came up and he ripped a base-hit. After another out, Larry
Herndon then slapped a single scoring a run. Mookie Wilson stepped in and he
stroked a base-hit plating another run. Jeffrey Leonard came up to bat and
banged out a single scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago proved to
be no trouble in the 9th.
The win went to Storm Davis who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Lee
Smith earned the save, his 2nd. Dave Stieb took the loss. He gave up 4
runs and 10 hits in 8 innings.
