TEAM RISP- Whitecaps: 1 for 8 Orioles: 2 for 9
Cal Ripken jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Baltimore
Orioles rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Great Lakes
Whitecaps, 3 to 2.
Baltimore won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs on 2 base hits. Lou Whitaker started the inning off right when he
smacked a single. After an out was recorded, Lee Smith then threw one that
got by the catcher for a passed ball. Ripken then lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run making Baltimore the winners and sending the 37,991
fans home happy. Baltimore had a total of 10 hits for the game.
Tom Burgmeier(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Smith(0-1) was the loser in relief.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Ripken noted. 'It was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid
off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
