TEAM RISP- Whitecaps: 2 for 7 Orioles: 0 for 4
Third baseman Buddy Bell had 2 base hits at Memorial Stadium as the Great
Lakes Whitecaps came back dramatically to top the Baltimore Orioles by the
score of 4 to 2.
Great Lakes had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
Damaso Garcia led off and got things going when he hit a single. Bell
stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a base-hit. Mike O'Berry then
laid down a sacrifice bunt. Mookie Wilson came up and he stroked a single
bringing in two baserunners. Wilson took second on the throw. A balk was
called. Alan Wiggins added to the uprising and hit a deep fly scoring the
final run of the inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until
the 7th inning.
Lee Smith(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2
runs. Tom Burgmeier(1-1) took the loss in relief.
