Bob Brenly had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the smoking-hot San Francisco Golden
Seals defeated the Cleveland Buckeyes 9 to 0 at Municipal Stadium.
San Francisco took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating one
baserunner on 2 base hits. Brenly ripped a base-hit. Bobby Grich followed
next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Bill Russell was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Steve Carlton followed and he banged out a
single scoring the run. That was all Carlton(1-0) needed. San Francisco had
10 hits for the game and Cleveland had 7.
Jack Morris ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 5
hits and 2 walks. San Francisco continued on their recent roll, their winning
streak now reaching 9 games and counting.
