Sid Fernandez racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts and first baseman
Cliff Johnson knocked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Cleveland Buckeyes
defeated the Manchester Minutemen 8 to 2 at Municipal Stadium.
Johnson provided much of the offense. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 3rd inning.
Overall Cleveland out-hit Manchester 11 to 3.
Fernandez picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. John Tudor
was charged with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 innings of work.
Scott Katzenmeyer was asked about the performance of Fernandez, 'He had his
good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the
strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'
