In a great finish the San Francisco Golden Seals came back in the top of the
ninth and held on to win over the Winter Haven Hamsters by a score of 5 to 3
at Chain of Lakes Park.
San Francisco scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3
base hits. Bob Brenly led off and started the rally when he doubled. Chet
Lemon stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Randy Ready then
tripled which was good for two runs. After an out was recorded, Jose Oquendo
stepped up to the plate and he ripped a one-base hit scoring the final run of
the inning. San Francisco out-hit Winter Haven for the game, 9 hits to 6.
The victory went to Doug Jones(1-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Jones was helped out by Dave Smith who recorded his 2nd save. Steve
Bedrosian(1-2) was the loser in relief.
'The only way this one could have been better', said Jones, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
