In a dramatic ending, the Seattle Red Barons staged a comeback win over the
Winter Haven Hamsters by the count of 5 to 4.
Seattle had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Dave Bergman started the inning off right when
he tripled. Willie Randolph came next and he tripled bringing in a run.
Geno Petralli then singled making Seattle the victor and beginning a joyous
home town celebration. Seattle out-hit Winter Haven for the game, 11 hits to
6.
Dave Righetti(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Tom Niedenfuer(0-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and
3 hits without retiring a batter.
'We just wouldn't give up,' Randolph said. 'Much of the credit goes to our
fans - they were with us the whole way.'
