Danny Jackson was on top of his game, blanking Pittsburgh on just 2 hits as the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 1 to 0.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Jose Canseco drew a walk. Canseco swiped second base. Fred McGriff then ripped a base-hit. Bob Melvin stepped in and he hit a deep fly scoring the run. Montreal had only 5 hits for the night.
Jackson(2-0) went the distance for the shutout. Mike Krukow(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Dean Amrhein lamented, 'Jackson was really aggressive tonight. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'
