One run was the difference at Three Rivers Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the San Francisco Golden Seals in 12 innings 4 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Pittsburgh came out on
top in the 12th inning. Otis Nixon doubled. Tim Teufel stepped into the
batter's box and he slapped a one-base hit giving Pittsburgh the win much to
the delight of the home town crowd. Pittsburgh totaled 11 hits on the night.
The victory was credited to John Farrell(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Joe Price(0-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 2
hits and no walks without retiring a batter.
