Elston Howard cracked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI and Turk Farrell went the distance as the Sacramento River Cats smashed the overmatched Columbus Redbirds, 19 to 2.
Howard was unconscious out there. While Columbus pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Columbus fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd inning, doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 14th of the season) in the 5th inning, doubled which scored a run in the 6th inning, doubled in the 7th inning and slapped a base-hit knocking in a run in the 8th inning. Sacramento provided plenty of action in the 6th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits. The Sacramento offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Farrell(8-5) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Phil Regan(3-8) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Howard said 'next time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
