WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Jerry Grote blocked the plate, saving a run!
Shortstop Bert Campaneris had 3 base hits as the River City Rascals defeated
the Las Vegas 51's by the score of 6 to 4 at Candlestick Park.
River City tallied 4 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. The key
offensive moment was provided by Johnny Bench who quieted the crowd when he
emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 1st of the season). River
City had 11 hits for the night while Las Vegas had 8.
The winning pitcher was Mickey Lolich(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings.
Paul Lindblad earned the save, his 1st. Dick Bosman(0-1) was the losing
pitcher in relief. He allowed River City 5 runs in 2 innings of work.
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Lolich said,
'this was one of those times.'
