45,229 fans watched an exciting game at Three Rivers Stadium. The California
Angels topped the Philadelphia Warriors by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
California ended up winning it in the 10th inning. The critical plate
appearance was by Lenny Randle who elicited a roar from the hometown fans
when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. California totaled 8 on the night.
The win was credited to Doug Bair(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Skip Lockwood(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 4 runs and
4 hits in 1/3 of an inning.
