In a good matchup it was the Hollywood Stars 8, the St Paul Saints 6 in 11
innings at Municipal Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Finally, Hollywood
pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Garry Maddox kicked off the action
when he reached on an error. Maddox was safe on a stolen base. After an out
was recorded, Dick Davis stepped in and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 1st
of the season) giving Hollywood the win and sending the home town fans into a
frenzy. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 6 times.
Mike Torrez(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. The losing
pitcher was Goose Gossage(0-1) in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in his 3 innings of work.
