Garry Maddox homered and had 2 RBI at Busch Stadium as the Hollywood Stars
beat the Memphis Redbirds by the count of 8 to 6.
Memphis never recovered after Hollywood took the lead in the top of the 2nd
inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Maddox
who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he smashed a two-run
homer (his 1st of the season). Hollywood rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Burt Hooton(1-0) got the win allowing 5 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Kent
Tekulve recorded the save, his 1st. Ed Halicki(0-1) was tagged with the
loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 8 walks in 6 innings.
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Hooton, 'I got burned on
a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
