Craig Swan delivered 9 solid innings as the Homestead Grays topped the Reading Pretzles by a score of 9 to 1 at Shea Stadium.
The game started off with Homestead taking the lead in the first scoring one runner. Rick Miller drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Bruce Bochte stepped up to the plate and he delivered a base-hit. Bochte took second on the throw. Mike Schmidt then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Eddie Murray followed and he reached on an error scoring the run. Homestead managed 13 in their victory.
Swan(1-0) allowed 1 run on the game. Dennis Lamp(1-1) was the loser. He was touched for 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
