With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, Reading Pretzles came from
behind to top Homestead Grays, 7 to 6.
Reading came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs
using 5 hits. Ted Simmons led off and he laced a one-base hit. Bob Horner
next to the plate and he doubled. Johnny Grubb got his chance to keep things
going, but he went down on strikes. Damaso Garcia followed and he would
ground out resulting in a run. Garry Maddox stepped into the box and doubled
bringing in another run. Garry Templeton contributed to the rally and lined
a single. Dave Collins stepped up next and he smacked a single making
Reading the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Reading had
12 hits for the game and Homestead had 9.
Neil Allen(1-1) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Bruce
Sutter(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. 'What a win!', Allen said. 'These
are the kind of games that stand out in your mind at the end of a season.'
