George Brett hit 2 doubles as the Philadelphia Warriors rallied impressively
to win in dramatic style over Reading Pretzels, 4 to 3.
Philadelphia erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs on 3 hits. Gorman Thomas got things going when he drew a walk. After
an out was recorded, John Wockenfuss stepped up to the plate and he delivered
a base-hit. Joe Lefebvre then drew a walk to load the bases. After another
out, Jerry Mumphrey stepped in and he laced a base-knock knocking home two
runners. Rick Burleson stepped into the box and lined a single scoring the
final run of the inning. Tim Stoddard earned the save with a perfect ninth,
his 2nd save.
The win was credited to Andy Rincon(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. The loss was charged to Neil Allen(0-1) in relief.
Pete DeStefano was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'
