Reading Pretzels broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 2 to 1 win over the Philadelphia Warriors and sending their hometown fans home smiling.
The game was won by Reading with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Jim Rice slapped a one-base hit. Rice was running on the next pitch and he stole second. Rafael Landestoy followed, but he was set down on strikes. Garry Maddox came up and he hit a single resulting in an exciting win for Reading and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Reading totaled 8 on the night.
Guy Hoffman(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Ron Reed(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks in 2/3 of an inning.
