WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Craig Kusick robbed George Foster of a Homerun!
Center fielder Gorman Thomas smacked 2 homeruns and Jim Kern finished
beautifully at Tiger Stadium where the Philadelphia Warriors beat the St
Louis Browns 11 to 9.
Philadelphia had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on
2 hits. After an out was recorded, Thomas began the rally when he drew a
walk. Oscar Gamble followed and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run
(his 5th of the season). St Louis was not lacking for run support as they
scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to
forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
Dave Ford(1-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Ford was helped out by
Kern who recorded his 11th save. Vern Ruhle(4-4) was given the loss in
relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 3 walks in 1 inning.
Gary Carter ripped 3 homeruns and scored 4 times in a losing cause for St Louis.
